2016 Graduation

Thanks to all the teacher who put effort into our graduation. We all had a really fun time.

This year was a really fun year. We enjoyed it a lot we learnt a lot of stuff this year

The Labyrinth

This week we have been learning about the Labyrinth. We watch the movie to see all the hinted deal and see what gonna foreshadow in the movie. My favourite part in the movie was the hand with they were asking the girl if she wanted to go up or down.

Tahuna Torea

We went on a school trip to Tahuna Torea  yesterday for the whole day, our reason for this trip is because our topic was about migration. We learnt about godwits and their long trip to New Zealand from Alaska. Our goal for this trip was to try and see a godwits unfortunately we didn't see any Godwits. 

Kuaka Reading

Today for reading LS2 were learning about the Bar Tailed Godwit. We were split into groups, our groups name is R, we had to complete the activities that Mrs Anderson set for us. We first did the connections, in the connection challenge we had to learn about connections There were three topics Today, 30 Years Ago and 100 Years ago. We also did Reciprocal Reading.

Smart searching

Today a group of student went to the library to learn about smart searching with Mrs Ogilvie. Mrs Ogilvie works with the Nation Library came to our library to teach us a better way of searching. She told us about a website called Epic which had Britannica and Kids info bits. And we learnt that Britannica we could go up level to help us learn at our own levels. After we had to promise that we would tech the rest of the people how to use Britannica and kid info bits.

Reading Challenge

Today we in reading we had to do a challenge that Mrs Anderson had made us. We had to learn to follow introduction and making sure we had to read for meaning and understanding.  Our first challenge was to read a book and explain it in 25 words. After we finish that we when to our next challenge which was to full out the missing word in the story. Our group got all of our correct for the first one. The second and third challenge are like the same but with different story.  

Rhythm Interactive

Today we had John and Lucy to come and teach us drumming. At first we were confused because they didn't talk because they was wanted to make use learn the action are louder than words. After awhile we got use to them not talking and played when they pointed to us. They use different ways to beat there drums. And also used funny word to help us to remember how to hit the drum. We all had fun.

Drinking water in school

In our school we have a new rule, our rule is that were not allowed to drink anything other than water. We have to make a DLO about drinking water and why it good for you.

Forces of Flight

Today in inquiry we learnt about the forces on flight. The forces are lift, drag, weight and thrust. Thrust and lift is what make the plane, and weight and drag is what make the plane stay still. As it say the Newton's first law say states an objects at rest will remain at rest and a object at motion will stay at motion.

Dancing

Today we learnt how to dance with Sonja. We learnt how to do rock and roll and chachacha. We were split into the middle of the hall opposites side to the boys. In rock and roll the girls  had to use are right leg first and the boys on the other side had use the there left leg, and move the left or right leg behind our other leg and after move side to side. After we got it we added the turn with add the skills we learnt just before, while the boys kept doing the same thing. So we had to practices with the boys. Later on we learnt the chachacha and we all crowned around the stage practicing our new skills, also again we practice doing it with the boys again.
   

Reading: Word clines -Afu and Jasmine

Today I created a google slides with Afu about words clines. Word clines is a ladder of words that are for year 1 then it keeps on going into powerful words like for years 8 and 9. I enjoyed doing this because it was challenging to change a simple word into a powerful word.  

Maths

Today we have been doing maths equations. Our maths question were based on fraction's. I was working on collaboratively with my friend named Juanita.Fractions wasn't my best subject so Juanita so she help me with my fractions.It was really fun that Juanita help me work out the equations.

Read Theory

Today I read this book on on read theory which our class do for 20 minutes.  The story try to make you understand the text and give you question to answer. We have to think about what the question asking us to do, something you have to look back at the story to find the information in the text.

Cross Country

For the last couple of week we have been practicing cross country because we have been building up speed so we can run for a much longer time.

Rugby Cluster Day

Yesterday some people in our school we went out to play rapper rugby and the boys played tackle rugby. The first game we played against was Bailey Road School it was tough game but we won. After that we had about a 30 minute break about 10 minute before our next we did a warm up and in the time we did the warm up we practise passing backwards. The second game we were against point England we tried are best but sadly we lost. We had a awesome day thank to the people that came  out of there time to help us from Otahuhu collage.

Ancient and Modern Olympics

This week my inquiry group did ancient and modern Olympics. We had to record our information in our own word because we would be stealing our people works. After we use our notes and made a Venn diagram to show the different between ancient and modern.

The Magic Box

I will put into the box….

The adventures I had in my past and will have in my future

As well as my tears I’ve shed, and also the joy and happiness I had felt

As the water make me feel more at home than anywhere else in the world

With the most beautiful sunset with the rose gold that you ever see

 

The last thing I’ll  put into the box

As the strobing glow of fireflies slowly come out of hiding  

Surrounding me as I look up to the unknown galaxy around me

My box is fashioned from crystal and crushed moonstone, with the rushing water from Mt Everest on the lid and the love from my family and friend on it corners.

Its hinges are the toe joints of the flaming  phoenix and  join with feathers from the flightless bird

I shall climb with my box to the highest point of Mt Fuji and I shall run up the stairs of great wall of China, I’ll travel with my box  seeing every single inch of the world.   

This week we have been learning to paint a picture with our words when we write. We used Kit Wright's Magic Box poem to help us do this. My favourite line in this poem is the adventures I had in my past and will have in my future. I like this line because it makes me think about what I have done and the things I might do in the future.

Warriors

Today Georgia, Ryan Hoffman and John Palavi from the warriors came to visit our school. Also we had Alice from DTR. Georgia show us the spinning wheel and it had hydration, belonging, sleep and trivia questions. When they spin the wheel it pick a random choose. The first thing the wheel choose was trivia question and because the warriors like to competitive we were split into two teams. Georgia had to pick between two team so we decided to yell as loud that we can. Ryan team had to yell Hoffman and my team which is John had to yell JP. Some people got spot prizes which were bottles or bags. After that the wheel pick a different and subject and so on. We had a lots of fun

The Olympic and us

Hauora

For the last 2 week my group has been focusing Hauora. Hauora is about the Maori belief which is the four walls. Also we learn if you take away hauora from anyone if well destory there spirit or anything else.

This Hauora it about the 4 walls, we learnt about countries that had to go to the Olympics and compare there Hauora to ours. I look like the people that has to go to the olympics has to have more Hauor than us kids

Current Event - The Big Sleep Out

Today for reading we learnt about the big sleep out on the news, we had to do a current event about the big sleep out.We do current event s so we can know what happening around the world. We had to read the article about the big sleep out, then we had to right our information on the current event DLO. I think that people should give some money to the homeless because the homeless people have to deal with rough weather, having to starve for a couple days also to deal with the very cold weather. I really enjoyed doing this because we got to learn about what people are doing for the homeless.

For the last week we have been learning about advertising. Advertising is to make you think that you need this product. Lyndon and I had made this add to sell a hover bike. We had to use persuasive language feature to make people buy our product.

Timetables quizzes

Today we were practicing recalling our timetables at the speed using quizziz. This game is against everyone who joined. The ranked are in order as how much you got for each point. We have a time limit which is 10 second because I came 28 and 24 in the races which mean I need to work on recalling my timetable much faster.

Reading Buddy with Room 4 and 3

Today in the afternoon room 3 & 4 came to LS2. I read with my partner Wairua she from room 3. We read I spy. My partner and I were looking all over the book for the specific items at the book tell us to find. It was very hard because some pages of the book was cover in items that we didn't need.   

Book Character Parade

 Today the whole had to dress up for book character week. We also had to dress up to make the magic of book week seem real. The junior had to walk up stage and show of there costume also the senior had to do it as well.

Attributing Photo's

 Today we have been attributing photo. We have been doing this because we want to show people that we have been saying thanks you to the person who allow us to use them. We also did this because it is illegal to take the pictures without attributing them.

Reading Advertising

 Today for reading Ls2  had to create a DLO with 25 words and some photos. This DLO show what we think advertising is, we could only use 25 word not 24 or 26 words just 25 words. We had to find some picture to put on this DLO. I really enjoyed  our challenge that we had to do.  Our challenge was to walk back and forwards to tell the writer what was on the paper that they had to write, we also had to have the write punctuation.

Orienteering

Today Leon came to our class for our last session of orienteering. When he finished talking to us we had to go down to the junior playground where we meet Elaina (Irene's daughter) for the first time. They gave us a paces of paper with number on it that go with the letters on the controls also we got our maps to try to find our destination. We waited for Elaina to tell us to go. When she said go we ran to our first destination. My first destination was A with was in the front car park after that I had to go to B then more. When I finish the first one I was glad until I got the second map because I though I was done because I was tried but I push on and made it to the end my finishing time was 21:50.

Life Education

Today was our third session. We learnt about people showing empathy. We learnt how to understand how people get stress and how it is not good for you. We learnt that if someone is bulling someone they don't necessarily know what is going on during there home life's. So before you verbally hurt someone think about what your saying and how your saying it because you don't know what is going on.  So far I have enjoyed these event's. 

Writing

Today for writing I crated a birthday invitation for a sunburned lawyer who rides comets. We had to use a website called story starter then there subject that you can pick Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Scrambler. I did scrambler because it was my set task. I got the topic of writing a birthday invitation to a sunburned lawyer who rides comets. I created this story because it related to my topic.       

   

Life Education

Today we went to our first lesson with Nicole for life education. We learnt about our body systems. We need to know about our body systems because we need to know what to do about them if one of your systems fail. We learnt about the nervous system - nerves/reactions circulatory system - Blood and the muscular - muscles

Speech

Good evening/morning. Why do you hurt yourself with sharp tools there always a reason but i’m not here to talk to you about harming yourself. I’m here to tell you to stop! How would you feel like waking up every morning and seeing a scar on your arm? You're not doing anything good by cutting yourself. You're making your situation worse you're letting whoever upset you win. Is that really what you want to do?

Do you feel ashamed or guilty afterwards could you walk down the street feeling proud of yourself. Why would you do such a thing, I don’t understand why people do that to themselves it is not good for them. People should really think before they do stuff like that. Their parents wouldn’t be happy with them because they made a bad decision. If you think that self harming is good for you you're wrong. If you self harm you will regret it in a few months time. People might ask you questions or even stare at what you did and you won’t like it. My question to you is would you ever self harm yourself.

It doesn’t solve anything, you're still hurting yourself there always consequences after like for example you’re damaging your body or maybe losing blood. We as people deserve to live your life to the fullest.

So don’t hurt yourself with sharp tool. It's only making you feel worse.

This is my speech, I had to talk in front of Gozan, Shannon, Mia and Tiare. I didn't do well because I was nervous, I can see I need to work on expression, I think I did well with a loud clear voice even though I was nervous I tried to keep clam.I tried my best to look at everyone but I kept forgetting apart of my speech. I think if i'd practice more I could of did all my speech without cue cards.

Thailand

This is my slide show of Thailand, we had to find which country are around Thailand and find out how many miles away from Thailand to New Zealand. Also we had to crate a virtual tour around Thailand for people who wanted to check out Thailand. We also learn a bit of the languages, and compare food.

Orienteering

Today in orienteering we had to go around the school to get the letter in the map first went behind the class room and then on we had to keeping going. It started to rain and me and my partner had one more left to finish but we got soaked. We had fun but im sad that we didnt get to finish

Super Smog

This week for reading we did an activity about making connections. We had to make comment about text to text, texts to self and text to world. What I found out in China, beacuse of the smog they shut down schools, high ways and planes.

India

China Family Tree & My Family Tree

In China I found out that your not allowed to have have more than one child. This means kids don't have any sisters, brothers, aunty's or uncle's. When we read this article called 'Millions and Millions' we learnt because they follow the population laws, most Chinese families are small. We saw in the book that they used a family tree diagram to show the difference between Chinese families and NZ families. We wanted to make a DLO to show people what it looks like if we compare a Chinese family tree to our family tree.

Today for our inquiry LS2 had to do a poster about the different country we were learning this week. I did China with Miss Anderson. I had to find facts about 5 facts about China and found where it was in the world.

Dog Report

Dog Report

Dogs are my favorite animal. They can be your best friend. I think dogs are a lot of fun. There are different kinds of dogs but they all need: food, special equipment, and care.

There are lots of different kinds of dogs. Dogs come in all sorts of different breeds, some dogs are mixed breeds. Some of the most well known breeds are: German Shepherd, Poodle, Spaniel, Labrador, and Boxer. Sometimes mixed breeds have some funny names. For example if you cross a labrador and a poodle you have a labradoodle.

When you're feeding your dog. There are three things that you can feed your dog. You can feed them: Jelly meat, Dog Roll, and Biscuits. The reason we have to feed them is to get them lot of energy to go on walk, play games and be active.  But you don’t feed them chocolate because it is poisonous to dogs.

You must have a equipment if you have a dog. The equipment you need is: A dog collar, a leash, a food dish and water bowl. With this equipment, you can keep your dog healthy and active. For example, you have to have a collar because if you lose you dog or your dog ran away, you can always look for the name collar.

To take care for your dog, it must be looked after. You must take you dogs to the vet if they are sick. They need injections to protect them. The reason why you have to take your dog to the vet or to get an injection because keep it healthy and be safe.  For example, you have to take it to the vet for monthly check.

In conclusion, all different kinds of dogs need food equipment, care, and they all a lot of fun. Dogs can be your best friend so that is why they are one of my favourite animal.  

E -ako Maths

 

Today I completed this stage in e ako.

This game help us in learning our maths  like our multiplication, addition and more. 

I was working on my fraction and place value. In e-ako  I could practise Division, Algebra, Basic Fact, Probability and Statistics. 

Poem For Remembrance Day

Jane and I had to find out what the main idea of the a poem. Our hint we got were the tittle something in the middle and the last words.

Building a deck

Building a deck

It’s was a clear sunny day, so my mates and I decided that we should make a deck out in the backyard. They headed off to the shop to buy some wood for us. I stayed back because someone needed to look after the house. They told me the shop smelt just like paint that had just fallen off and shelf but they didn’t mind. Finally they got back.

We laid out the wood to make the deck the right size. Then we had to cut a couple of pieces of wood because they just didn’t fit. Finally we had the right size for the backyard so we got some nails and a couple of hammers out of the shed and laid out the first piece of wood on the our foundation. Then we slowly hammered the nail down so we could prevent us hitting our fingers.

Evenally it turned into a race, we don’t know how it happened but it just happened, most of us were hitting our fingers more than once. At the start we were trying prevent that from happening. As more and more wood have been nailed place, more fingers were getting hurt.

We were nearly finished, the last thing to do was to put a coat of paint on top of the wood and wait for it to dry, but we didn’t have any paint laying around the shed so we headed back to the shop to buy some brown paint.

It took an eternity to dry but we finally could place a table and some  chair out. Also we drank some cold drinks to freeze our sore hands and relax.

This is my native writing about building a deck but my version of it. I had a day to finish writing this.
